Woke up in the morning on this Valentine’s Day, alone…

Just half an hour train journey from Madrid. I loved this world heritage city at very first sight. The Aqueduct was magnificent though not miles long. 894m long, 163 almost symmetrical arches, first built in 1st century AD by Romans, a true masterpiece of engineering. It’s part of the complex system of aqueducts and underground canals that brought water from the mountains more than 15km away. The view was mesmerizing before sunset when the shadow of the structure was projected on Plaza del Azoguejo.

Brilliantly good, I felt. The sudden heavy snowing didn’t interrupt my mood, rather lifted the romantic index… though I was alone.

Like other Spanish cities or towns, Segovia has its cathedral too. This handsome Gothic architecture building is plainer than Cathedral of Toledo and less colourful. It took 200 years to complete!

Contouring the old city wall to the northwest tip, the Alcazar was found sitting on the cliff. its turrets, deep moat, cliff, expansive farmland… looks like the prototype of fairy tale castle. Its design was said inspiring Walt Disney greatly. The castle housed some permanent exhibits, not spectacular as of the building itself.

Marvelous aqueduct, almost 2000 year old, still solidly standing.

A view outside the old town.

Start snowing, another kind of atmosphere.

Oddly enough, the diamond shape decoration was eye-catching.

Errr... diamonds of pyramids?

Another beautiful facade with floral print.
