20120221 Cadiz

Cadiz is probably the oldest city in Europe, its founding traced back to 800BC. 18th century was its golden age when it enjoyed 75% of Spanish trade with the Americas.

Carnival was on-going in Cadiz, I was assured of the craziness and fun of the festival, but I was also told it wouldn’t be easy to get any accommodation. Hence I planned for a day trip.

Was fairly quiet in the daytime, very likely most of the fun seekers were exhausted overnight. The side products of the festival – rubbish and empty bottles – scattered here and there.

Breathing the salty breeze from the blue Atlantic Ocean, the warm temperature attracted lots of sunbathers on the fairly good beach, but water was still cold. Cadiz is small, most of the places are within walking distance. The star-shape Castillo de Santa Catalina was the only place I had visited.

Coastal view, the feeling of seeing the blue sea is always good.

Cathedral, I didn't go in. Get a break off the churches for now.
