20070906 Veliki Preslav

We dropped by at this remarkable town on the way to Varna. Tsar Simeon moved the capital of the First Bulgarian Empire (681-1018) from Pliska to Veliki in 893, and decreed Orthodox Christianity as the religion of the empire, and Bulgarian as the language. The capital was then shifted to Veliko Tarnovo in the Second Bulgarian Empire. Nowadays only ruins remained certifying the glory days.
