20120318 Munich

This was my 2nd trip to Munich since 1995.

Jaeger’s Backpacker Hostel rejected to grant me a bed in the dorm because of my age (discrimination), so I had to get a single room for myself. Room rate was quite expensive in this city.

Alte Pinakothek, Sunday entrance EUR1. The German gallery section was not much interesting. Found the works of Rafael, da Vincci, and many Van Dyck, many Rubens. Why Rubens' liked to paint fat people?

Pinakothek der Moderne, Sunday entrance EUR1. It housed mainly modern arts - furniture designs, abstract paintings, photography, sketch of paintings etc. Ok, not bad but not a must.

Neue Pinakothek EUR10 incl audio guide + temporary exhibition. The permanent exhibits were quite good, mostly impressionist. 2nd time to see the sunflower of van Gogh. Also in display were Monet, Manet, Max Liebermann, Gustav Klimt though not many. A must in Munich if you like impressionism.

Odeonsplatz and Marienplatz gathered the biggest tourist crowd. Was good immersing in the atmosphere.

Spent an afternoon at BMW Welt, a huge showroom displaying the latest models. I am not a fanatic follower of this luxury brand, but who could resist the beauty of these big-boys’ toys? The design of “Double Cone” showroom was beautiful, the most expensive 6er models were kept here.
