With
another 4 travellers, we rented 2 cars with a tour guide for a daytrip to the a.m.
destinations.
Karanaqh,
is an uninhibited photogenic ruin town of 1000 yr old. Liked to explore the
narrow spaces that built compactly with all facilities once functioned. Time
was too short to stay. Decorated by the green farmlands next to it with a
backdrop of mountains, the scenery is unbeatable.
Chak
Chak, the holiest pilgrimage site of Zorosatrianism. This religion was wiped
out after the arrival of Arabs. The worldwide followers nowadays gathered here
annually during 14-18 June. The area was not particularly scenic or interesting
but the history counts.
Monuments
in Maybod are quite well preserved, lacking a bit of its “original” feel, still
interesting somehow. The Caravanserai was ok, the cistern is interesting, and
my pick is the beautiful pigeon tower.
Landscape throughout the journey - barren land and mountains.
Camels.
An old lady doing laundry.
Ruins at Karanaqh, mud structures, deserted.
Farmlands and mountains on the backdrop.
A view of Karanaqh.
Some structures are still solidly stand.

Inside the ruins.
Buildings and leafless trees.
Chak Chak, the holy pilgrimage site of Zoroastrians.
Door of the temple.
Zoroastrian Temple, uninhibited except the caretakers.
Desert road.
Castle at Meybod.
Demonstration of weaving.
The cistern is no longer in used. Ice blocks were kept here in ancient time. Special material on the wall to improve insulation.
Gorgeous pigeon tower.
Was built to collect the stool of pigeons as fertilizer.
Thousands of "nests"... must be extremely smelly and filthy in the past.
